Strengthening REA Grassroots Advocacy means Forming Local Chapters
Local REA Chapters are an integral part of the Reserve Enlisted Association’s legislative strategy.  They are the grassroots entity of REA and the heart of the organization.

Chapters are formed to aid the Reserve Enlisted Association in furthering REA’s overall legislative objectives and are charged with the responsibility for local level legislative activity .  Chapter programs are developed to assist in individuals’ current and future professional development and for extending REA programs and benefits to members in its area.

The REA Bylaws state some of the requirements for Chapter structure and operation but overall, Chapters enjoy considerable latitude and autonomy.   Chapters are a corporate entity in their own right and are not legally an extension of the national organization in matters where corporate liability might be asserted.

REA is a national organization and is not a confederation of local Chapters.  Initially, REA will be a two-tier grassroots organization being built around Chapters.  Eventually, with the growth of the Association, Chapters may be aligned regionally.  REA serves as the coordinating body establishing policies, plans and programs, providing vital guidance for Chapters, and executing National level activities as determined by the membership and elected leaders.

Forming a Chapter

Once twenty-five (25) members are located in a defined geographical area, these members can petition the Reserve Enlisted Association to support the start-up of a local Chapter.

When individuals join the Reserve Enlisted Association, they will be automatically assigned to a local Chapter, if one exists in their local area – military unit or residence.
